Bethesda, Maryland-based Live Healthier has been acquired by Centene Corporation, a Fortune 500 health insurance company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Live Healthier will remain in Bethesda with the company’s founder, Mary Moslander, as CEO and president.
Live Healthier provides software to employers to help engage employees in creating or maintaining healthy habits. The company also offers its mobile- and Web-based health management products to unions and government organizations to benefit their members. The goal is to target health factors such as stress, diet and exercise, thereby improving wellness and reducing health care costs.
Moslander began the company after her personal experience with improving her health. She discovered that regular telephone conversations with a friend about dieting and exercise helped motivate her. When she lost 30 pounds, Moslander realized she had an idea for a new business. She created LiveHealthier to educate people about healthy decisions regarding food and exercise and to provide support and coaching.
Moslander launched her self-funded start-up in 2005 and served as its sole employee. In approximately two years, the company had 15 employees. Now, Live Healthier employs 120 people on two floors in The Fairmont Building on Old Georgetown Road. The company began in the Maryland Technology Development Center, Montgomery County’s first tech company incubator. It then became the first tenant of the Rockville Innovation Center incubator. Prior to moving into The Fairmont Building, where the company will remain after its acquisition, LiveHealthier was located at 2 Bethesda Metro Center.
