Adam Van Grack is a Managing Member of the Firm and regularly assists individuals, corporations, small businesses, and nonprofits on a broad range of challenging legal problems, litigation matters, and legal solutions. Specifically, Adam has extensive experience in civil litigation, business lawcontract disputes, real estate/property law, sports law, construction law, and appeals. Adam’s legal advice and legal opinions have been featured in many different national and local publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Baltimore Sun.

Adam is the head of the Firm’s Litigation Group, and Adam’s own civil litigation practice addresses many legal issues at both the trial and appellate levels, including contract disputes, financial disputes, probate litigation, real estate matters, general appeals, sports law, and business law. Adam has been the lead attorney in many complex business disputes involving many different parties and causes of action. Adam practices primarily in the Maryland Circuit Courts, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Adam also often handles complex legal appeals directly from trial courts, lower appellate courts, and administrative agencies, most regularly in the Supreme Court of Maryland, Appellate Court of Maryland, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeal for the D.C. Circuit, and Supreme Court of the United States. Additionally, the firm is a Member of the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) as well as the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and Adam regularly attends briefings regarding activities and changes in laws which address the commercial and home building industry.

Adam is very active in the Maryland legal community. Adam currently serves as Councilmember to the City of Rockville (elected in 2023) and as a Member of the the Bar Association of Montgomery County’s Legal Ethics Committee where he formerly served as Chair (appointed in 2015). Adam was also previously appointed by the Governor of Maryland to the Maryland Juvenile Justice Advisory Council. Adam has also worked for U.S. Senator Paul S. Sarbanes from Maryland in the United States Senate on a variety of legal issues. As a native Washingtonian who lives in Rockville, Maryland and attended high school in Rockville, Adam regularly counsels numerous Montgomery County, Maryland and Washington, DC area businesses on various corporate and legal matters.

Adam is regularly active in the sports community, and one of his passions is providing legal services to sports-related companies and entities. Adam’s legal advice related to sports law and recreation law has been featured in such publications as Outside Magazine, Canoe & Kayak Magazine, Box Pro Magazine, Texas Sports Safety, and Washingtonian Magazine. Adam has litigated and provided legal advice to clients on sports-related issues in many different contexts. Adam has also spent many years on and assisting the executive boards of entities that focus on sports safety, Olympic athlete support, river stewardship, and environmental conservation. Adam has also been involved in sports-related legal issues representing Olympians, NFL franchise owners, world-renowned athletes, and various athletic organizations on a wide variety of legal matters. Adam regularly counsels athletes and sports organizations on sports, business, and litigation issues, such as contracts, releases, waivers, permits, liability, and property concerns. Adam was previously the head of the United States Olympic Committee’s National Governing Body for canoe and kayak sports and on the board of directors of USA Canoe/Kayak. Adam has also been awarded the prestigious “Havens Leadership Award” by the United States Olympic Committee.

Adam also has significant experience in representing individuals and businesses in complex legal matters, financial matters, land use concerns, natural resources issues, and property law. Accordingly, Adam was appointed a professor with a title of Senior Lecturer at Washington University regarding land use, property law, environmental law, and natural resources law. Adam has also worked with many different state and federal agencies regarding a multitude of property and natural resources issues.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained summary judgment and half-million dollar in attorneys’ fees against Anne Arundel County in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County for improperly acting to halt a construction project within the County.
  • Obtained a jury verdict in the Circuit Court for Carroll County relating to claims revolving around the historic renovation of a 19th century residence. The jury’s verdict found no liability for Mr. Van Grack’s clients on the claims brought against them by the Plaintiff and awarded Mr. Van Grack’s clients monetary damages, including their attorney’s fees, on their counterclaim for violation of the Maryland Consumer Protection Act.
  • Obtained a defense summary judgment for Jay-Z in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland in an action alleging violations of copyright law.
  • Obtained a defense jury verdict in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland in an Unfair Competition and Unfair Trade Secrets Act Lawsuit that sought to enjoin the Defendant from continuing to operate its business.
  • Obtained a defense jury verdict in the Circuit Court for the City of Baltimore in a fraud action where the Plaintiff was seeking compensatory and punitive damages relating to the award of a government procurement contract.
  • Represented the minority owners of the Washington Redskins (now Washington Commanders) against Daniel Snyder and the Washington Redskins in a minority shareholder oppression matter the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland which resulted in a settlement.
