IRS, Maryland, and DC New Tax Deadlines COVID-19 Update
Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus Pandemic, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Maryland, and DC have extended the April 15, 2020 tax deadlines for the filing and payment of taxpayer’s Tax Year 2019 income taxes due.
However, many tax deadlines occur throughout April – June. For clarification, here are additional updates of tax deadlines for April 2020, May 2020, and June 2020 Tax Filings which have been announced by the IRS, Maryland Comptroller, and DC Office of Tax and Revenue.
IRS TAX DEADLINES
(1) All Federal taxpayers will be required to file (and pay) their IRS Tax Year 2019 Tax Returns on or before July 15, 2020.
(2) The Following IRS Forms are now due on or before July 15, 2020.
- Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, 990-BL, 990-N (e-postcard)
- Forms 8871 and 8872
- Form 5227
- Form 990-T
- Form 1120-POL
- Form 4720
- Form 8976
(3) The IRS First estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment due April 15, 2020 is extended to July 15, 2020.
(4) The IRS Second estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment due June 15, 2020 is extended to July 15, 2020.
WASHINGTON DC TAX DEADLINES
(5) Washington DC Income Tax Returns with due dates on April 15, 2020 are now due on July 15, 2020.
(6) The Washington DC First estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment are still due April 15, 2020.
(7) The Washington DC Second estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment are still due June 15, 2020.
MARYLAND TAX DEADLINES
(8) Maryland Income Tax Returns with due dates after April 1, 2020 and before July 15, 2020 are now due on July 15, 2020.
(9) Maryland Estate Tax Returns with due dates after April 1, 2020 and before July 15, 2020 are now due on July 15, 2020.
(10) Maryland Business tax returns due for May 2020 are extended to July 15, 2020.
(11) The Maryland First estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment due April 15, 2020 is extended to July 15, 2020.
(12) The Maryland Second estimated income Tax Year 2020 tax payment due June 15, 2020 is extended to July 15, 2020.
(13) The Maryland statute of limitations for filing a claim for refund has been extended from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020 for 2016 tax returns
(14) Maryland Admissions and Amusement tax returns for May and June are extended to July 15, 2020, as are certain alcohol and motor fuel taxes.
While these IRS, DC, and Maryland extensions are helpful, the IRS also has programs to assist taxpayers such as the IRS People First Initiative. The New Tax Day for most filings, July 15, 2020, will likley help many taxpayers.
