IRS Tax Deadline to File 2017 Tax Returns is April 17, 2018.
Most years, the federal and states deadline for taxpayers to file their prior year’s income tax return is April 15th. However, for the 2017 Tax Year, the deadline for taxpayers will be Tuesday, April 17, 2018. When April 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday (which it does in 2018), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) generally moves the deadline to the following Monday. However, in 2018, the District of Columbia celebrates “Emancipation Day” on Monday, April 16, 2018. Federal tax law states that legal holidays in the District of Columbia alter the filing deadline for all taxpayers throughout the country.
Thus, this year, Tax Day is adjusted; all taxpayers throughout the United States will have an extra two days — until Tuesday, April 17, 2018 — to submit their 2017 tax returns.
